Welcome

FRIENDS of INHARRIME

Friends of Inharrime works closely with the Casa Laura Vicuña, an institution founded in Inharrime in 2004 by the Salesian sisters of Mozambique. Casa Laura Vicuña offers various services to the surrounding community, including an orphanage that provides a home for 72 girls age three and older, and government-staffed primary and secondary schools (1st to 12th grade). The sisters and their collaborators provide literacy classes for local women and offer nutritional and educational support for children from families without resources to provide either.

Since 2009, Friends of Inharrime has assisted the Casa Laura Vicuña in developing and implementing community programs. It has also worked in the U.S. to improve understanding of circumstances in Mozambique and promote discussion on the proper role of the international community in places like Inharrime.

Mary Rysavy lived in Inharrime, Mozambique, from 2007-2008, working with community programs in child education and nutrition. She founded Friends of Inharrime with her husband, Matthew Rysavy, in order to support her work in Mozambique while studying medicine in the U.S.
